Hamid Pourazari visits London
During a British Council trip to Fadjr theatre festival in Tehran earlier this year Mark encountered an extraordinary theatrical production of Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle, performed by a cast of 85 Iranians aged 6 to 60 years old and performed in a community centre in south Tehran.
What I witnessed was a brilliant, exciting and moving performance that was a powerful reminder of the power of theatre to give voice to people on the margins of society.

Inspired by that performance LIFT have invited Hamid to come to London to create a new work in collaboration with Iranian and Afghan communities in London to be performed at LIFT 2012. Hamid will be travelling with two students who have acted in his previous shows Saeed Zarei and Sahar Gholami.
Hamid always works with migrant communities and in order to develop ideas for a show in London Erica Campayne, Participation Producer, along with Olivia Furber, Participation Placement have be travelling around London with Hamid to meetings with organisations working with Refugees and Asylum seekers.
Hamid’s work always explores a sense of place. Footage of his performance in a disused car park in Tehran coming soon.
