The Seventh Day of LIFT-mas
I don't know about you, but we are getting quite excited about the festive season this year, here at LIFT HQ! Especially as in 2011, we hit the big 3-0. So we thought what better way to see in the holidays, than with our very own 12 days of Christmas?
On the 7th day of LIFT-mas, my festival gave to me……
The LIFT ’97 show, "The Seven Stages of Grieving".
In LIFT '97 we presented "The Seven Stages of Grieving" by Kooemba Jdarra Indigenous Performing Arts, Australia. Directed by Wesley Enoch, this story of resilence, strength and the will to survive was considered a landmark in the history of Aboriginal theatre. The one-woman show followed the journey of an Aboriginal 'Everywoman' as she tells poignant and humorous stories of grief and reconciliation. In an environment where Indigenous Australians battle racism, deaths in custody, a history of violence and the anguish of land, ‘The Seven Stages of Grieving’ reinforces the traditional role of Indigenous Australians as storytellers.
Happy LIFT-mas!
