The Eighth Day of LIFT-mas
I don't know about you, but we are getting quite excited about the festive season this year, here at LIFT HQ! Especially as in 2011, we hit the big 3-0. So we thought what better way to see in the holidays, than with our very own 12 days of Christmas?
On the 8th day of LIFT-mas, my festival gave to me……
8 year olds, with scissors….
8 was the average age of the children who took part in this year’s ‘Haircuts by Children’, by Mammalian Diving Reflex. This summer, children from Hallsfield Primary School and Canning Town Adventurers worked with worked with stylist Simon Pickthorne and London hairstylist and visual artist Faisal Abdu’Allah to master the art of hairdressing, before being let loose on the public to provide the latest looks.
Our young stylists did brilliantly – no Van Gogh ears, some amazing new looks and colours, and a unique experience for all who took part. One grown-up commented “The chance to show trust in children through something so personal as having a haircut, trusting them to do something they'd never normally do...refreshing.”.
